ℹ️ ➖➖➖ The Dutch shipbuilding firm The Damen Group, designs and manufactures a range of patrol vessels, of various sizes, including the Damen Stan 4207 Patrol Vessels. The Damen Stan patrol vessel designs' names include a four digit code, where the first two digits are the vessel's length, in metres, and the second two digits are its width. Some variants are equipped with deck guns, while others are equipped for peacetime duties like search and rescue, fishery protection, environmental monitoring, or intercepting smugglers.
📑 ➖➖➖ The Government of Nicaragua confirmed that it will invest around ten million dollars in two patrol boats of the Dutch shipbuilder Damen, type Stan Patrol 4207.
This is part of a million dollars loan with the Inter-American Development Bank of a little more than 900 million dollars, which will be used for road infrastructure projects, budget support, electrification works, rural agriculture programs, education and national security.
According to official information, the investment in the two ships for the Nicaraguan Naval Force will be 9.84 million dollars, at a rate of 4.92 million dollars for each team. Approval of the loan that the Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortega, sent to the Legislative body. However, the value is low, when taking into account that the Damen Stan Patrol 4207 is a 250-ton patrol vessel, so it can be assumed that the investment only refers to the price of the hull, without operational equipment or weapons.
It will be necessary to see what funds or international cooperation Nicaragua will have to equip these vessels that will be destined to patrol Nicaraguan territorial waters in the Caribbean, since the military budget for 2018 is the lowest in the region with only 83.8 million dollars, as posted
Despite this, Nicaragua acquired 50 repowered Russian tanks of the model, with the cooperation of the Russian Federation, and has now announced the incorporation of these two new Damen SPa 4207 patrol vessels.
Nicaragua would be the second Central American nation to acquire this model, after Honduras also incorporated a pair about five years ago, apart from six Interceptor 1102 fast patrol boats, also from Damen.
